Religion Mapping in Jakarta
Indonesia is a country that praise religion highly. There are 5 religions that recognized by law, Islam, Christian, Catholic, Hindu and Buddhism, with Islam almost dominate the population. Religion is one of the factor to choose their leader, especially Islam, which stated in Quran that a leader must be Muslim. This is become a threat of the next vote of Jakarta's Governor, because between two candidates, one of them is not Muslim.
Basuki Tjahya Purnama was sentenced to jail because of his bad words regarding Muslim (read more). I spotted that is actually politically driven issue, but this influences badly.
With that issue, I tried to analyze the next vote based on districts. I used existing population data from BPS 2015 and mapped it using GIS.
Green means religions other than Islam populated up to 50%, while red is dominated by Islam by 90%. With this data, if 100% Muslims are obey the wisdom from Quran, there is no chance for Basuki to win.
We can also see that religions is not spreading evenly in Jakarta. People with religion other than Islam are prefer living in Jakarta Barat and Jakarta Utara, while Muslims tend to live in Jakarta Selatan and Timur.
In conclusion, religion still has big impact of people's life in Jakarta.
