Stress Level Might Causes Jakarta's Traffic Problem
According to the guardian, Jakarta is now one of the most congested traffic in the world. There are more than three millions of people take more than 2 hours to commute from outside to Jakarta everyday. It is including my father, who live in Bogor, 50 km away from his office.
I work in Jakarta, but I don't live with my father. I can't bear the time consumed for commuting, while my father can. Sometimes my father knock on my door, which is in Jakarta, at the morning, while I still asleep.
"Wake up, Bindi. Look at those laundries, when do you plan to do that? How are you gonna get a wife if you're this lazy?" Once my father said that to me.
So you'd probably agree with this, I am lazy and my father is very diligent. But if you realize, my father is one of the reason of this Jakarta's catastrophe.
My father chose to live in Bogor, so my mother and my brother and sister can have a good environment to live on. He can compromised losing almost 10% of a his life to commute just to make his family have a better life.
According to happy city book by Charles Montgometry, the more you commute, the more you stressed. So my father should be very stressed by now. But he doesn't look that way. I do look very stressed. I am experienced high cortisol state right now. Why?
I also observe Jakartans health by their look. Mostly they're having belly fat. According to latest health studies, you will stuff carbs in the stomach if you in high cortisol state. One of the reason of high cortisol is caused by: stress.
Walking is one of the recommended solution to lower this symptoms. Too bad Jakarta is very bad in pedestrian quality. Also, Jakarta is a stressful city to live in. Low quality foods, low GDP baseline, bad environment, and of course, the traffic itself.
In conclusion, to live not in Jakarta is relatively healthier, even though you have to commute more than 2 hours. Even the stress of 2 hours of commute is still lower than to live in Jakarta. This might be one of the factor why Jakarta is one of the most congested traffic in the world.
